Child care information
Childcare Approval and Voucher Scheme
CAS - The Childcare Approval Scheme will allow parents to know that their carer has passed a series of key checks before obtaining their approval certificate. The checks include :
- Relevant childcare qualification or an approved induction course in childcare
- First aid certificate suitable to care for babies and children and the certificate not more than 3 years old at the time of appointment.
- CRB check
- Minimum age of carer 18years.
Voucher Scheme - On the 6th April 2005 the Government implemented new tax and NI allowances for the purpose of child care. The voucher scheme allows the employee to receive £55.00 per week in the way of a voucher free from tax and NI. The amount paid out by the company/employer is exempt from employers NI contributions. To enable the family benefit from the voucher scheme your carer must be registered on the childcare approval scheme. Income Tax -
Upon a carers commencement of work you will become, as obvious at it seems "the employer" and therefore responsible for their payroll, i.e. their wages, employers tax and NI contributions. For simplicity we recommend you
contact one of the many nanny pay roll companies. It is important to point out that in most instances when agreeing terms with your carer, hourly or weekly rates of pay are usually quoted as net

Criminal Records Bureau (Disclosure)
Our company is a registered and approved body with the Criminal Records Bureau.
Disclosure is the service provided by the CRB to help organisations make safer and more informed recruitment decisions. Information is collated from the Police National Computer (PNC), local police force records and where appropriate, information on lists held by the Departments of Health and Education and Skills of people who are considered unsuitable to work with children.
The CRB offers three levels of disclosure, Basic, Standard and Enhanced. For posts involving childcare, an enhanced disclosure is required. Certificates are valid for one year.
Insurance
We recommend to the nannies we place that they take out insurance to protect them against an accident to a child in their care for which they may be held legally liable. If you give your carer use of a car, make sure they are added to your policy. Similarly, when you employ someone to care for your children you become an employer, and as such, should take out employer's liability insurance. Insurance is available through brokers Morton Michel (www.mortonmichel.co.uk); annual premiums start from £60.
